President Jim Irvine opened the meeting at 12:15. Flag Salute was led by Barbara Thormann; Invocation by David Brown.
ANNOUNCEMENTS There will be a Board Meeting in 2 weeks; then on March 15 we will have a Business Meeting (no guests). Wayne invited the members to the Retired Teachers meeting next Weds, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. to hear the Buchanan Choir (3930 E. Saginaw). The club received a thank you note from Annabelle Lolinco (Edison GOY). Girl of the Year banquet is February 23.
GUESTS Selena Farnesi and her mother Lisa surprised us. Selena asked the Girls of the Year from the 3 schools if they had made college applications. They all had, and Selena told them to realize that there are many more opportunities in college than they can possibly think.
BIRTHDAYS Selena's 22nd birthday is Friday; Barbara Thormann's was a few days ago. All present were astounded at the quality of the club's Happy Birthday song!
HAPPY DOLLARS Wayne B for Barbara M's being there today, & for her son's improved health, and for Selena; Barbara M-- her eldest son was released from the hospital after 17 days with pneumonia; Jim I an apology for forgetting to remain for the nominating committee meeting; Joan A great-granddaughter read a story to her (not bad for a 3 year old!); Bob Armer glad to be part of McLane's Girl of the Year, and he went to a travel seminar where the buffet was the biggest draw for the attendees, also for Selena (a national winner) and her mom; Jeff T proud to be a McLane grad; Bobbie T her oranges didn't freeze; Marvin A invited to a steak dinner in Belmont, So. Carolina? ; Frank C an invitation to his great-grandson's 1st birthday; Don S happy for the girls attending for Girl of the Year; Ron J Son bought his 1st home, and GOY; Dave B also happy for Girls of the Year; Lisa Farnesi happy to be with us, for the girls, and happy to NOT be a grandparent yet; Sally for the girls; John S & Bill S-- $5, happy; Selena happy to be Student Body President at CSUF, her birthday, the girls, and graduating in May (looking for law schools); Diane C Selena; Loren G a friend in college, enrolled, rolled out.
TRAVEL Don S Morro Bay & Cayucos; Dave B San Juan Bautista; Lisa F Tucson; Selena 3 weeks in London; Ron J going to Las Vegas; Wayne Manteca; Jim & Judy I San Simeon. Also Barbara T & Karen G confessed to buying or leasing new cars; each 4 cylinders= $4.

Sunnyside Ana Rodriguez interested in medicine; observed at Community Hospital. Applied to UC San Diego. Frances Munoz said they have 3,300 students.
Duncan Polytechnic High Gaoki Vang Outstanding Student Award for Trigonometry, Playground Supervisor; family of 13 (2nd oldest). Duncan administrator Neng Yang told us they had 1000 students.
McLane Stephanie Carrillo started a dance club. Wants to be a veterinarian and likes art. Middle child of 3 girls. Kim Villescaz was the administrator for McLane; said that they have an excellent after school program, ex.- tutoring, robotics, etc.
